If the widget does not appear
The nine causes, most likely first, with what to check for each.
Work down this list in order. It is arranged by how often each thing is actually the cause, and the first two account for most messages we get.
- The app embed is off
- Without it the block has no script or stylesheet to use and renders nothing at all. In the theme editor, open App embeds and turn Somix on, then save. See Install and turn it on.
- The block is not on the template you are looking at
- A block added to the product template does not appear on the cart or the home page. Add it to each template you want a widget on.
- The widget is assigned to a different placement
- A widget set to Cart will not draw on a product page even with the block there. Check Where it appears in the editor.
- The widget is paused
- Check its switch in the widgets table on the app’s home page. On the free plan one widget is live at a time, so setting another live pauses it, and a widget that uses a Pro feature is paused with its switch locked.
- The block is pinned to another layout
- A block whose Which widget names a layout, such as Buy together, draws only a widget of that layout. Change the widget’s layout and that block draws nothing. Set the block back to Best match for this page.
- There is nothing to recommend
- A widget with no products to show hides itself rather than leaving an empty box. This is common on a nearly empty development store, on a product that shares its collection with nothing else, or when exclusions have removed everything. Untick Products that are sold out under Never recommend, or switch to a broader source, and see whether it comes back.
- You changed a setting and the storefront still looks old
- Storefront pages are cached by Shopify. Reload the product page. If it persists for more than a few minutes, open the widget and save it again, which republishes its configuration.
- You set a rule and it has not taken effect yet
- Rules, manual picks and every catalogue source except Same collection are resolved when you save, not when a page loads. On a large catalogue that takes up to a few minutes. The widget keeps showing its previous picks until it finishes.
- A widget that places itself does not appear
- It needs the app embed on, and a CSS selector that matches something on the page. It also stands aside when a Somix block on the same page is already drawing that widget.
A widget discount is not applying
- Check your plan. Discounts are Pro, so on Free nothing is discounted on the widget or in the cart, whatever a widget was set to while you were paying. The settings are kept and start working again the moment you upgrade. See Free and Pro.
- Check Settings. If Allow widgets to discount what they sell has been unticked, no widget discounts anything whatever the widget itself says. It is on unless you turned it off.
- Confirm the items were added from the widget. Items put in the cart another way are deliberately not discounted. See Discounts.
- Check your discount combination settings in the Shopify admin. Whether an app discount combines with your other discounts is Shopify’s decision.
- Confirm the widget’s own discount type is not set to No discount. Any layout can carry one.
Still stuck
Email support@somixlab.com. Include your store address, the widget name, and a link to a page where you expect to see it. With those three we can usually answer on the first reply instead of the third.
Something here wrong or missing? Tell us. We would rather fix the page than answer the same question twice.
